setting a budget
We strongly advise our clients to consider their budget when it comes to bespoke window treatments because the cost can vary greatly. Here's a few things to think about when commissioning curtains:

DROP LENGTH
The longer the drop (the top to the bottom of your curtain) the more expensive your end product will be as you'll require more fabric and construction will take longer.

WIDTH OF WINDOWS
Curtains are rarely made from a single width of fabric, at the very least they'll be made with 1.5 widths and in most cases 2 or 2.5 widths will be recommended in order to achieve a full and luxurious result.

HEADING TYPES
Curtains can be created simply, with an eyelet, tab or tape top or with a more elaborate handmade heading, such as a cartridge, double or triple pleat. The type of heading you choose doesn't just impact on the finished result, but on the amount of fabric required. The more elaborate the heading, the more fabric will be required to achieve a full and luxurious drape.
PATTERNS
Patterned fabrics are matched across widths and across each curtain. Some patterns match across the horizontal, some across the vertical and others across the diagonal. This adds additional fabric costs as there is likely to be some wastage across the widths. Pattern matching adds addition costs to the construction time too. If you choose a patterned fabric we will do a full fabric and construction calculation for you to help you make an informed choice.

HAND-STITCHED V MACHINED
Our hand-stitched drapes are constructed almost entirely by hand, with only the lining hem and the buckram header sew in by machine. Hand-stitched curtains are generally considered to be the most desirable as the seamstress has full control over the tension of each stitch, seam and hem creating the best possible drape. Of course, hand-stitching takes time, and time, unfortunately, is money. If you are considering hand-stitched curtains, we will provide a full cost breakdown of hand v machine stitched options in our quote, to help you make an informed choice.
