About Us
53 Interiors by Jo & Sean, was founded and is managed and run by us, Jo & Sean!

We live together in the East End of Glasgow with our dogs, Mulder & Scully and our cat Lord Fluffington (the mascots). We're lucky to have a home workshop and a separate sewing workroom where we make everything you see on our pages, by hand, to order or to measure.

Our Journey

We met on Plenty of Fish (don't tell anyone), and we probably connected because we were a bit less conventional than the regular PoF user. When we finally met up we spent the day buying hats and scrounging vintage shops and so began a never-ending journey of indulging each other's flamboyances and encouraging each other's interests and skills.
When we moved in together our new home was pretty awful. It had been neglected, inside and out, but we figured we had the imagination and the skills to lick it into shape, and my god, did we!
During our renovation projects a couple of things became clear; we work REALLY well together, we're pretty damn skilled and we're both happiest when we're designing and creating and so, it wasn't a huge leap to get to 'let's make a living doing what we love to do'.
Our Mission
Everything we've ever designed, created or constructed has been rooted in reusing and/or repurposing existing things. We do our level best to reduce waste and we've always been committed to finding the least harmful products and materials for whatever job we have on hand.

It's these values that have influenced our mission as a business; to create beautiful, luxurious AND sustainable furniture & furnishings.

Fabric
The textile industry contributes around 35% of plastic and chemical pollution found in our oceans, seas and rivers.

We don't want to feed into this figure and so we source high-quality deadstock when we can and source our fabric from mills and manufacturers who share our ethos.
Fast furniture is placing huge pressure on our environment. Designed to be trendy, this furniture isn't designed to last with much of it destined for landfill as it can't be refurbished.

Every piece of furniture we create not only diverts a piece from landfill, but gives our clients unique, one of one, high quality items that will last for years.
We only use reclaimed and recycled wood in our workshop.
Using reclaimed wood helps reduce waste and, because it's already been tempered to the environment, makes it better to work with.
When we can't salvage what we need we head down to Glasgow Wood, a social enterprise that offers great wood at great prices.
